Amanda Brugel
(February 27 2010 (February 27 2010 - Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a secluded community in that part of the island of Montreal called"the West Island. The West Island, to those who are unfamiliar with it, is a large section that extends from Lachine up to the west. Amanda Brugel was born there, but her time in the city wasn't long. Brugel lived in Courtice outside Oshawa Ontario. She had a dream to become a professional dancer, but due to an explosive growth spurt she outgrew all of her dancing partner. In an article published by Toronto Star, she revealed that, in her heels, she stood 6 foot 1 inch tall. As I got bigger than my male partners, I quit. The former dancers usually turn into acting and Brugel was not an exception. A drama teacher at her high school helped push Brugel in the direction she needed. She was a teacher at the time who advised her to pursue a role for the school's annual production. She tried out to play the leading role in Anne of Green Gables. The Fine Arts Talent Scholarship led her to York University, where she took classes in theatre and was awarded an Associate's Degree in Fine Arts in the year 2000. Over the past 20 years since Brugel has landed roles in over 60 plays on the small and big screens receiving the greatest attention when she was cast as Rita in the award-winning television series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel was the only Canadian actor for Season 1 of the series, and only seen occasionally.
